Payroll Assistant

We are currently seeking an experienced Payroll Assistant to join our skilled Accounting team.

The best candidates will understand that the efficiency of our accounting department is paramount to our success and will work hard to ensure that objectives are achieved with consistent timeliness, accuracy and efficiency.

How you will make and impact:

  • Responsible for full-cycle payroll administration for a variety of commissioned, salary and bonus compensation for multiple dealerships
  • Experience in WSIB, EHT etc. calculations and remittances and solid understanding of payroll rules and regulations
  • Assist and collaborate with the Financial Controller of the dealership in all accounting areas including assistance with monthly statement generation, journal entries, reconciliations and remittances, capping deals, accounts receivable and payable, attendance and vacation tracking, benefits administration and assistance with ongoing audit compliance and other projects and initiatives as needed
  • Assisting the Controller in the provision of solid leadership, training and direction to the accounting department personnel to ensure attainment of business objectives

Key Accountabilities:

  • Maintain payroll information by collecting, calculating and entering data
  • Update employee information and payroll records as required
  • Address employee pay related concerns and provide accurate payroll information
  • Processing payroll by established deadlines
  • Filing & Clerical Duties
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Provide information and payroll-related data and reports
  • Ensure accurate administration, including remittance and reporting of all payroll related deduction including WSIB, garnishments and family support payments
  • Payroll maintenance including vacation pay, adjustments, ROE’s, Journal Entry, manual cheque calculations etc
  • Maintain payroll operations by following company policy, procedures and compliancy in accordance with government regulations
  • Work closely with Human Resources to coordinate the receipt of information, clarify changes, provide further details, reconcile discrepancies, etc.
  • Time and Attendance review and reporting
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Education Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years payroll experience
  • Completion of Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification preferred
  • Diploma or equivalent in business and finance/accounting
